Savonnerie. All the characteristics of the Savonneries can be seen in this unique piece. This dramatic rug has many complementing elements. The centerpiece consists of heraldic devices and coats of arms very common to the Savonneries of 17th-century France. In addition, it copies the architectural designs of the era as if it was commissioned for a specific room. The medallion is beautifully surrounded by a wreath of fruit. From the center of each side, the border elegantly joins the background design. On the top and bottom centers, a garden inside an oval frame is woven, giving this elegant rug even more character. The frame of this garden is held by two angel-like wings and attached to a bowl of fruit.
